You know they would. And they'd set us up with snacks too.

That's true. But if they came to visit, I'd have to get out of bed...

[Rue would probably tell him not to, but he'd want to! He'd have to get up and be a good host! Hug Mom! That would be breaking the stay-in-bed rule for sure. (It's self-imposed, he can break it, gosh.)]

Not necessarily. I bet they'd help with bed breakfast too.

But I already promised a relaxing movie sleepover with them on my vacation! Breakfast is for sure gonna happen then. Feels unfair to ask them to come over and make us food here too.

[Mom probably would not burn eggs or almost set the kitchen on fire, though. Maybe supervision would be a good idea... at least until Hunter gets used to the timer.]

[ Probably. Maybe. Definitely.

At least clean up wasn't so bad - he's got the stove spotless again. ]

Well okay. I can handle it on my own, I think. And ... it might be nice to have privacy.

[Yeah, teamwork! Well, mostly Hunter, Mr. Great Cleaner, but Casey helped too. He holds up his hand, high-five!]

It's nice when it's just us sometimes, yeah.

[Boyfriend cuddles are very different from Mom cuddles. Both good, but that just means it's nice to have one or the other at different times.]

[Look out Hunter you're getting the playfully sly look again.]

Oh yeah? Have you been telling Mom what we do?

[Mom absolutely knows they cuddle and kiss, it's just fun to make Hunter blush all the way to his ears.]

[ He is blushing SO HARD!! All the way to the tip! ]

Mom does kinda know everything... [Or at least they claim to.] They probably don't want to see it, though.

[All these teenage sons getting so mushy with each other...]

[ He slips his hand into Casey's. ]

Just us and the breakfast. Okay?

[Casey's fingers curl around Hunter's, and he leans in to kiss his cheek.]

Just us and breakfast, it's a promise. Tomorrow's gonna be only you and me.

[pyrighteous]

[ More ear blushing as he ducks his face closer to allow for kissing. ]

I'm holding you to that, Casey.

[Oh, well, in that case, have a proper kiss, as his hand turns in Hunter's in a way that allows their pinkies to twine.]

I was hoping you would. [Sometimes he needs a little tether to hold him back from pushing himself too hard. Bad habits leftover from the end of the world.] How about this: you like rules. Set some for me!

[ Even better!! Hunter takes a moment to return the kiss slowly, enjoying the moment. ]

Rules huh ... Okay, let me go get my notebook.

[ He is, of course, delighted. STRUCTURED RULE BREAKING!! ]

[The delight is expected, yet still very endearing to witness. Casey grabs the kitchen timer (so they don't double-burn dinner) and heads to chill on the couch. Hopefully he won't regret these rules! He's trusting you, Hunter.]

[ Look, your boyfriend is a very simple tree. He craves STRUCTURE.

He wanders back out of his room a moment later, flipping to a new page in the same notebook he's been using to chat with the guard. Pen in hand, he flops next to Casey to start writing. ]

Well. First of all, you HAVE to say in bed as much as you can. I'll get you everything you want.

[Casey tilts sideways to lean against his shoulder, watching him write.]

Rule accepted! I'll have to get up for the basics but I can do lots of stuff from my bed.

[If he's not sleeping he can fuss on his laptop or relic, read a book... very low-energy tasks easily managed without getting up.]

Right, right. And like - you're not trapped there or anything.

[ OBVIOUSLY some allowances for leg stretching and comfort. Hunter notes that down. ]

Also, no work! Even easy work. Absolutely nothing productive.

[Casey hesitates. Ooh, so quickly there's a hurdle... he's not surprised by the rule, but it's gonna be a tough one.]

...No work. Maybe I'd better leave my laptop with you, then.

[The temptation would be there to use that downtime to work on coding for the catbot, or future project design, or catch up on schoolwork- yeah, no laptop.]

I am absolutely confiscating the laptop.

[ He scribbles that down. ]

Video games are good though. Even if those sometimes feel weirdly like work and I don't understand the point.

[ Hunter tried a farming sim once and did not understand the appeal. ]

[Farewell, sweet laptop... see you in two days... it's for the best, though.]

I think there's games I can play on the relic, and I can't really do work on it, so I'll hold on to that. And there's work stuff on my mask, but I can resist messing with those for a day.

[No one's confiscating that, sorry.]

[ Hunter nods, instantly understanding that dynamic without it needing explained. Nobody takes Casey's mask and that's fine. ]

If I catch you working on your mask, I'll just have to - uh - punish you, I guess.

[Casey tilts his head curiously.]

Punish me how?

[pyrighteous]

Uh -

[ He at least catches himself before automatically spouting something terrible, like one of Belos’s punishments. He drags it back from the edge to something in the same vein but not awful. ]

I will - uh - require you to make up the time you spent working twice over! Double the hours you worked with resting in bed!!

[ A beat. ]

And I’ll sit on your legs if I have to.
