[IC] [Reverie] SEPTEMBER 2022 - PALACE GAME

[ The birdcage is EXCRUCIATINGLY heavy. Rupert can lift it a little? But he's also sinking into the mud now. ]

[again, he's going to try to use the staff to try and both himself and the cage. to hunter:]
Is there a way to open this thing? I don't know how long I can hold this.
no subject
[ Rupert can get the staff lodged in such a way that the cage stops sinking, at least; that's something. Hunter struggles a bit, but manages to turn his head. ]
I - there's a lock, but - it's under the mud somewhere.
no subject
I'll go down and look for it. Do you have any idea where? I don't know how long this is going to hold you up.

[thinking, thinking...]
I can push myself up with the staff once I'm done, maybe. Do you have anything I can break the lock with?
no subject
It's just me in here. And him out there--
[ Speaking of which, Belos is abruptly shifting forward, swinging an elongated limb with a scythe on the end of it down at Rupert. ]
no subject
—I'll figure it out, bye!
[he's still holding onto one of the bars of the cage to keep track of where it is, but he ducks down below the mud for a moment to try and dodge (but with a roll of six, so).]

And then - finally, Rupert's hand touches the edge of the cage. Somewhere near the bottom, but at least it's something. ]

he's still reaching out to see if he can find the staff, but for now he'll try to shift so he can kick at the lock, assuming that'll be more effective than trying to tug it off with his free hand. eight!!]
no subject
He can sort of feel something shifting, maybe? But also he is OUT of air by now. The mud presses in close, threatening to flood in. He's got one more chance here. ]

Next to him, inside the cage, Hunter is freaking out. ]
Rupert! A-are you okay!?
no subject
I'm okay, I'm okay, just let me catch my breath so I can go down before your uncle stabs me in the face—

[DOWN HE GOES AGAIN with a fourteen to dodge this time!]
no subject
And oh hey, his feet brush up against the wayward staff. ]

I don't know how to use you, but this is really important, so please work with me here... Uh, levitation spell? Unlocking spell? Anti-mud spell? Knock out Hunter's evil uncle spell? Just - help us!
no subject
... apparently it is, because the staff hums in Rupert's hands. The lock clicks open neatly, and both Rupert and the cage start to rise slowly out of the mud. ]
