[well! on instinct, he's trying to pull the staff out of the mud so he can block the grab, but he's disoriented by the pain (and the three i rolled).]

[pyrighteous]

[ This is a VERY AWKWARD GRAPPLE, given that Belos did not roll well.

The painting edge is just barely out of reach. IF Rupert could get even six inches closer... ]

[heartlands]

[he'll try to shove the staff into the mud again, hoping he can use it to propel the two of them that much closer so he can grab onto the edge and pull them both in, rolling a six to do so.]

Come on come on come on—

[pyrighteous]

[ It is TERRIFYINGLY close. The staff creaks, and then cracks - Hunter dangles dangerously low with a yelp - but somehow, just BARELY, Rupert manages to grab the edge of the painting. In the next moment, the staff falls away into the mud; Hunter winds up clinging to Rupert's remaining foot as the mud presses in around them. ]

[heartlands]

Grab on—!

[he's holding his remaining hand behind him for hunter to grab onto, before he tries to pull them both through with the hand on the edge of the painting with an eighteen.]

[pyrighteous]

[ He finds a foothold - some structure under the mud - which gives him the leverage to haul himself over the edge. And once he's through, the Guard from before is there, watching anxiously. He can give another hand up to Rupert so that both him and the caged Hunter can fall back through and into safety. ]

[heartlands]

[he takes it, and the two of them are tugged through, both covered in mud and one of them missing a foot. it's fine. give him a second as he just kind of lays here and groans, before:]

Ohhhh my gosh we made it.

[pyrighteous]

[ The caged Hunter just makes relieved gurgling noises for a moment. Meanwhile, the guard stares in horror down at Rupert's leg. ]

Not all of you made it!

[heartlands]

[stares up at the sky]

We can fix that later? Probably. It does not feel great! Very much an understatement! But - I got him out.

[pyrighteous]

I'm getting a healer's kit!!

[ He's scrambling off to do that! ]

[heartlands]

[speaking very quickly, as he gingerly reaches for his injured shoulder with his opposite hand]

That sounds great thank you very much.

[pyrighteous]

[ It only takes him a few minutes; soon enough he's back with a small woven box of some kind. Inside, there's bandages and some basic potions. ]

I - I can't bring back a foot - I can't even heal that slash -

[heartlands]

[taking a breath, biting down on his lip for a second as he closes his eyes]

It's not your fault, you warned me before I went... Just do whatever you can.

[pyrighteous]

R. Right. I need to - you'll bleed out if I don't -

[ He's going to get a tourniquet going for the leg first. ]

[heartlands]

[he stays as still as he can, but after a few moments:]

Is there anything I need to do?

[pyrighteous]

[ Hunter’s voice cracks as he leans down over Rupert’s leg. ]

Don’t die. Please?

[heartlands]

[he gives him a pained smile.]

Like I said... I'm pretty good at that.

[pyrighteous]

That doesn’t exactly make me feel better.

[ He finishes tying off the tourniquet, then applies a healing salve. ]

[heartlands]

You don't have anything to feel bad about, okay?:

[pyrighteous]

This is my head, right? You’re here to rescue me from - all of this!

[heartlands]

That doesn't make this your fault. And if it helped save you- it was worth it.

[pyrighteous]

[ Hunter bows his head. ]

Are you sure?

[heartlands]

Of course I am. You're important, Hunter. What happens to you is important.

[pyrighteous]

[ you know what, he is just going to break down and cry a little. It’s been a stressful palace. ]

[heartlands]

...I would hug you but I'd just cover you in mud.

[and blood, probably.]
