Generally speaking the onscreen stuff will be kept PG-13 (this is a Disney cartoon after all!) but the implications may be exponentially more horrific (this is a Disney cartoon after all!!)

[ Much better! With his hands on the cage, Rupert can easily haul himself down and find the lock again.

And oh hey, his feet brush up against the wayward staff. ]

[heartlands]

[he keeps one hand on the lock to keep track of where it is, shifting so he can try to grasp the staff with his other hand.]

[pyrighteous]

[ He's got the staff in one hand and the lock in the other. What now? ]

[heartlands]

[he can't talk when he's under here, so he starts thinking instead, his grip on the staff tightening.]

I don't know how to use you, but this is really important, so please work with me here... Uh, levitation spell? Unlocking spell? Anti-mud spell? Knock out Hunter's evil uncle spell? Just - help us!

[pyrighteous]

[ Is that how you use staffs??

... apparently it is, because the staff hums in Rupert's hands. The lock clicks open neatly, and both Rupert and the cage start to rise slowly out of the mud. ]

[heartlands]

[as soon as he's high enough to breathe and talk again:]

Okay, okay, I think it's unlocked - grab onto me when you come out, I think I'm holding onto something that's floating?!

[pyrighteous]

A-are you sure? Won't I just drag you down?

[heartlands]

You said you trust me, right? Come on, we should hurry! I need to get you out of here.

[pyrighteous]

Okay! Okay, I will!

[ He struggles a bit, but manages to grab onto Rupert at least.

Above them, Belos is not pleased. ]

Return him to the cage this instant.

[heartlands]

[glaring back at him as he grabs onto hunter]

Staff, can you please float us both back into the painting?

[pyrighteous]

[ The staff floats back in that direction; Hunter clings to it awkwardly as it goes.

Belos moves quickly, though, the mud shifting him to block the direct path back. ]

No. You are not letting him out of here.

[heartlands]

That's not up to you!

[a pause, trying to think of something, and with a roll of fourteen—]

Uh - fireball! Please!

[pyrighteous]

[ Fireball will do. A gout of flame catches Belos full in the face; he hisses and lunges forward even with half his face melting. ]

You will regret that.

[ He aims another sharpened limb at Rupert's chest. He doesn't quite have enough force behind it, though, given that six. ]

[heartlands]

Doubtful!

[when the hit misses, given how close belos has gotten, he's going to try to kick out at his melting face with... a nat one!]

[pyrighteous]

[ The good news is, you manage to kick Belos in the face!

The bad news is ... it goes through his face! And the face reforms! And oh those are sharp teeth biting down. There's a horrible crunch, and then Belos pulls his head back ... still holding Rupert's foot. ]

[heartlands]

[fun times with uncle belos!!

anyways, he's predictably shrieking in both surprise and intense pain, gripping tighter to both hunter and the staff. yelled:]

Please get us out of here, please get us out of here—

[he asks, as i roll a two,]

[pyrighteous]

[ Alas, the staff seems disoriented by the sudden defeet of its rider! It lunges for the painting but ends up sticking in the mud next to it. Hunter yelps and clings and. Oh god. That foot. ]

Rupert!

[ As he yells, Belos comes in with a giant slime hand to try to grab the two of them. ]

[heartlands]

[well! on instinct, he's trying to pull the staff out of the mud so he can block the grab, but he's disoriented by the pain (and the three i rolled).]

[pyrighteous]

[ This is a VERY AWKWARD GRAPPLE, given that Belos did not roll well.

The painting edge is just barely out of reach. IF Rupert could get even six inches closer... ]

[heartlands]

[he'll try to shove the staff into the mud again, hoping he can use it to propel the two of them that much closer so he can grab onto the edge and pull them both in, rolling a six to do so.]

Come on come on come on—

[pyrighteous]

[ It is TERRIFYINGLY close. The staff creaks, and then cracks - Hunter dangles dangerously low with a yelp - but somehow, just BARELY, Rupert manages to grab the edge of the painting. In the next moment, the staff falls away into the mud; Hunter winds up clinging to Rupert's remaining foot as the mud presses in around them. ]

[heartlands]

Grab on—!

[he's holding his remaining hand behind him for hunter to grab onto, before he tries to pull them both through with the hand on the edge of the painting with an eighteen.]

[pyrighteous]

[ He finds a foothold - some structure under the mud - which gives him the leverage to haul himself over the edge. And once he's through, the Guard from before is there, watching anxiously. He can give another hand up to Rupert so that both him and the caged Hunter can fall back through and into safety. ]

[heartlands]

[he takes it, and the two of them are tugged through, both covered in mud and one of them missing a foot. it's fine. give him a second as he just kind of lays here and groans, before:]

Ohhhh my gosh we made it.

[pyrighteous]

[ The caged Hunter just makes relieved gurgling noises for a moment. Meanwhile, the guard stares in horror down at Rupert's leg. ]
