[ The Guard shakes his head, taking a step back. ]

Belos will kill me if I go in there.

[moonlit_knight]

Then go find a damn rope.

[Leans their whole body weight against the cage to tilt it up, shoving one hand through the bars to the caged Hunter]

Gimme your hand!

[pyrighteous]

O-okay! Fine! I will!

[ The Guard disappears. Meanwhile, the Hunter in the cage takes her hand. ]

Is that even going to help??

[moonlit_knight]

Just hold onto me a second.

[glancing up at the belos on the ceiling to keep an eye on them, they don't want to let go of the cage but they'll need to for this, drawing their sword]

[pyrighteous]

[ He does cling to her, then. He also looks up - ]

Watch out!

[ he yells right as Belos comes crashing down at her. ]

[SWORD STRAIGHT UP INTO HIS FACE, activating the ice magic to try and freeze him in place]

[pyrighteous]

[ The ice magic freezes his legs to the mud, but he just snaps them off and reforms them. Similarly, the sword cuts through him but doesn't do much more than slice off some sludge. ]

Is that all you've got?

[moonlit_knight]

[Curves the sword to drive it into the sludge on the ground, trying to freeze themselve a platform to stand on, next to the bars so they can hopefully freeze those in place]

You're a second priority. Hunter, this thing got a lock?

[pyrighteous]

[ The platform she can definitely do; it helps keep Hunter from sinking further for now. ]

Y-yeah, but it's under the mud!

[moonlit_knight]

Got it.

[hopefully Sparkles will be back with that rope soon. Gonna try and freeze some of those tentacles tethering Belos to the ceiling in the meantime]

[ THAT makes Belos fall to the ground with a plop an a curse. He gets back up with a roar, aiming another swipe at Selena's head.

It's at that point the guard returns with a rope. ]

Here!

[Dodges that by falling straight backwards into the sludge, throwing out a hand to the guard]

Toss it! Now!

[pyrighteous]

Okay, I'm doing that!

[ He tosses the rope to her! ]

[moonlit_knight]

[Catches it, DEEP BREATH and diving under the sludge to find that lock]

[pyrighteous]

[ That sludge is UNPLEASANT. Not only is it cold and thick, but it also seems to sap at her very lifeforce.

It takes her an agonizing ten seconds to find the lock. ]

[moonlit_knight]

[wow! this fucking sucks! must have sucked a lot for Hunter to be stuck so deep down in it too.

if he can endure then so can they, even if it feels terrible, even if it's so much harder than it should be to drive their sword into the lock and try to shatter it, they'll struggle through.]

[pyrighteous]

[ They manage to get it in after some struggle, at least, and the lock breaks open. Hunter forces the cage door open and swims out! ]

I-I'm out!

[moonlit_knight]

[oh thank goodness, resurfacing and wrapping their arm around him, looking around for Belos]

Sparkles, pull us out!

[pyrighteous]

[ The guard HAULS then with all his might. ]

I'm pulling!

[ Belos is still here though. Oh yes. He comes surging up out of the mud, trying to stab them from below. ]

[moonlit_knight]

[SHIT, they can't move to parry without letting go of the rope or of Hunter. The sword is still in their hand wrapped around the boy and they try to maneuver it to intercede, to at least push the sword towards a less vital area if they can't stop it properly, but they know they're not getting out of this unscathed]

[pyrighteous]

[ No they are not. They can shift the blade to somewhere less lethal, but it still cuts deep into their side. ]

[moonlit_knight]

[well they cry out in pain and try to KICK HIM IN THE FACE]

Fuck off, nobody cares about you!

[pyrighteous]

[ BELOS KICKED IN THE FACE

Their kick connects with a satisfying SPLAT, sending him back into the mud. ]

[moonlit_knight]

[Good!! Grimacing and doing their best to hold on, to push Hunter in front of them towards the door]

[pyrighteous]

[ She manages to push them through the painting, then, leaving Belos trapped behind them.

Both Hunters just. gasp for a while. ]
