It takes her an agonizing ten seconds to find the lock. ]

[wow! this fucking sucks! must have sucked a lot for Hunter to be stuck so deep down in it too.

if he can endure then so can they, even if it feels terrible, even if it's so much harder than it should be to drive their sword into the lock and try to shatter it, they'll struggle through.]

[ They manage to get it in after some struggle, at least, and the lock breaks open. Hunter forces the cage door open and swims out! ]

[oh thank goodness, resurfacing and wrapping their arm around him, looking around for Belos]

Sparkles, pull us out!

[ The guard HAULS then with all his might. ]

I'm pulling!

[ Belos is still here though. Oh yes. He comes surging up out of the mud, trying to stab them from below. ]

[SHIT, they can't move to parry without letting go of the rope or of Hunter. The sword is still in their hand wrapped around the boy and they try to maneuver it to intercede, to at least push the sword towards a less vital area if they can't stop it properly, but they know they're not getting out of this unscathed]

[ No they are not. They can shift the blade to somewhere less lethal, but it still cuts deep into their side. ]

[well they cry out in pain and try to KICK HIM IN THE FACE]

Fuck off, nobody cares about you!

[ BELOS KICKED IN THE FACE

Their kick connects with a satisfying SPLAT, sending him back into the mud. ]

[Good!! Grimacing and doing their best to hold on, to push Hunter in front of them towards the door]

[ She manages to push them through the painting, then, leaving Belos trapped behind them.

Both Hunters just. gasp for a while. ]

[Slowly reaching for their bag, ugh it's covered in slime, hopefully the medkit wasn't permeated]

[Pulling up their shirt, grimacing, and doing their best to clean up the wound. This hurts though, let’s out a pained hiss]

[ Yeah, uh. Caged Hunter dashes off for a moment? Returns with some water held carefully in a mask fragment. ]

[ He holds it out to her while the Guard keeps talking. ]

We - we did make a deal. I kept getting dragged under, and ... he said he'd protect Phoenix for me if I just let go. That he'd love me again if I did this for him.

[Keeps tending to the wound, listening sombrely]

He’s a liar. And love isn’t supposed to be conditional. Someone like that isn’t capable of giving you what you really want, Hunter.

I know that. I know it. So why do I keep going back to him?

Because you spent your entire life loving him, and that’s not easy to let go of. Even when you know someone has betrayed you, it’s normal to long for the days you could happily believe the lies. To wish they could really be like they said they were if you just did enough for them. But he never will.

[Finishes bandaging themself up and gestures for both of him to move closer]

Come here.

[pyrighteous]

[ They both approach, the guard kneeling next to her. ]

I always think that maybe there's a way. Something I can do better.

[Pulls both of them into a hug]

Wanting to have faith in someone you loved for so long is only natural. Nobody can judge you for that. But the person you believed in was never real, and you’re better off without him.

There are people in your life who love you and who will stand by you, no matter how low you feel. You have a team who will support you. Friends who care for you. Believe in them instead. You deserve so much more.
