[...Here's the thing. Draxum already knew the list was going to be short. His run through Hunter's mindscape remains clear in his memory; he's seen and heard for himself how the guards were treated. Whatever spark of joy or kindness they may have experienced was always going to be few and far between. He was never expecting much, so he had plans to supplement it.
Hunter has just given him Draxum's own backup plan.
There's a numbness in him as he looks down on it, but there's no denying that's what it is. A cutting of the palistrom tree for Flapjack (and perhaps Hunter himself), as well as one item to represent himself, Rue, and Casey. They'd be a reminder of the people the Guard has in his corner now, as well a promise of good things to come, to make up for how little his past may have had to offer.
Draxum was expecting little, but not nothing.
There's a long stretch here of inactivity here as he stews on that, glowering down at the list with a dark expression and forgetting to reply.]
[ Sorry, Draxum. You might have to talk to the guard yourself in that case - or ask Hunter to leave a message maybe. But not only does the past not offer much to begin with, the guard specifically doesn't want anything tainted by Belos. which is nearly everything ...
Hunter waits a moment, growing increasingly nervous the longer he goes without receiving a reply. ]
[The vibration of the Relic in his hand stirs Draxum out of his brooding. Right. He says the first thing that comes to mind to cover the delay.]
I was taking a dump
[The emotional kind, which Draxum would argue is even more disgusting—if that didn't require admitting to the assortment of unhappy feelings in the first place. He doesn't like the picture this paints of just how miserable life was for the guards; likes even less thinking of what that means for Hunter himself.
But he doesn't want to talk about that, so he just deflects.]
Tell him I appreciate it I can work with this it will be sufficient It won't take long to acquire these items either Which means that once the robot vessel is ready and we have the palistrom wood I'll have everything I need to conduct the ritual We'll be ready to go soon
[The latter will probably take the most time. Conveniently just enough time for whenever it works out best for the players to do things. /jazz hands]
The turtles and I used to be enemies I tried to wipe out humanity They stopped me but not before a suit of armor devoured part of my soul Now I'm on the run for war crimes and revealing the existence of yokai to the world I went into hiding on the surface Michelangelo discovered me there then forced shelter and rehabilitation on me against my will For some reason his family humored this I was told that if I was going to hide amongst the humans however I had to get a job And that's how I wound up running a high school cafeteria for human pupae
[There you have it: the rise and fall of Baron Draxum.]
[Draxum probably deserves to be judged for that, but it's nice not to be written off all the same. That would be a dealbreaker for most people. If anyone could understand, he thought it'd be Hunter, but you never know for certain until the truth comes out.]
Humans have oppressed my kind for millennia When I learned of a prophecy that foretold the destruction of all yokai I assumed it would be at their hands
[Well, the good news is there's no way Draxum is going to miss the Guard's call tonight. That's a thought that's going to keep him wide awake for a week.]

- A CUTTING FROM THE PALISTROM TREE
