Did. Did you think was something else? With tentacles?

[ He awkwardly pulls up his pant leg? Those are some nasty bruises - not quite the right color for a human - but no broken bones. ]

[Yeah after a couple years of working with and around the youkai, that miscoloration isn't a huge deal. Leonardo hands his plate to Raph and motions for Hunter to follow him.]

We've dealt with some weird stuff. Sounded like something we didn't wanna deal with again, but that's just a normal human car.

[ Hunter glances at Flapjack - who is taking a nap on Raph's head - before obediently following Leo. Limping a little. ]

What kind of weird stuff?

Centuries' old demons, aliens, run of the mill mutants, you name it.

[Leo's just leading him to their sort of sparse medical bay - mostly just a cot, working table, and medical supplies. But he'll tap the cot for Hunter to sit on so he can take care of that.]

Keep that pant leg up.

[ He does, despite his confusion? And… frankly that rattled off list makes him relax. He sits on the cot. ]

Oh. I mean. I’m not sure what an alien is, but the centuries-old demons are usually pretty chill if you don’t make them angry.

[He kneels down to look at it closer. Looks like just a bruise and nothing too serious. He'll dig around in the kit for some disinfectant and then bandage padding so nothing bumps up against it and get to work.]

This one wasn't. No matter what we thought could happen, there wasn't any reasoning with it.

[ Hunter holds very still as Leo works, trying not to flinch? He is totally flinching whenever Leo gets at the scrapes with disinfectant.

There’s other recent scrapes too, not from a car. And an old scar on his ankle. ]

Really? What did it want?

[Weird. Well, he'll take care of those too. Just get some gauze to wrap around the whole calf at this point. Stayin busy.]

Mindless violence? Destroying humanity. [He glances up at Hunter before focusing on what he's doing again.] Tried to kill our dad and destroy our family specifically.

[Shredder did enough damage. Destroying their home, killing GramGram- His fingers tighten around the gauze wrap before he forces them to loosen up. Easy.]

[ Thanks Leo. Hunter makes it as easy as possible.

He watches that reaction - winces a bit, regretting having brought it up but… ]

Why your family specifically?

[He ties that off and sits back on his heels to examine his handiwork. Looks like it'll stay for now.]

Long story. Just - family thing. [As much as he's willing to be open about a lot of things, the Hamato clan history is not one of those things. He just met this kid and doesn't know what's up just yet.]

Either way, that thing's gone and we're still here kickin' it so, win one for us.

[ Hunter wiggles his leg gently. And just … nods. Aching rather deeply himself. ]

Family, huh. I get it. You don’t have to explain.

Looks good.

[He'll stand back up, ready to help him down if he needs.]

So yeah. Hang out, get some sleep. We'll go to the Hidden City tomorrow.

[ He manages to stand on his own with only a small wobble. ]

You’re sure it’s okay for me to stay?

Absolutely. April stays with us plenty, and Casey's been staying with us since he got stuck here.

We'll get you a bed set up.

[ Hunter just sort of trembles all over. When he stops for the night, he is going to STOP. ]

Who’s Casey and April?

[Yep that's why he insisted on food first, buddy. But he'll lead Hunter back through the lair, stopping for extra sheets along the way.]

April's our best friend. Practically sister? [GramGram said as much; April had told them about the conversation.] And Casey's new. Doesn't have any family here either.

[ Hunter will automatically move to gather up the sheets if Leo lets him. Desperate to be helpful. ]

Oh. She ... sounds kind of like Luz, then.

[He gets caught up thinking about Casey, how... weird it is being called 'sensei'. The name he doesn't recognize brings him back, and he keeps the blankets fully in his arms, but lets Hunter take the couple of pillows.]

Yeah? Well, most humans are pretty great so you're already battin' a hundred there having one around.

[ Pillows he can do!! He gladly takes the pillows. ]

Really? I've only ever met a couple. And ... one HAS been great, but the other was. Very bad.

Well. Yeah. I mean, not every human is gonna be April or- Luz? Luz. Same as youkai, always some bad apples. Doesn't mean they aren't worth getting to know.

I - I'm not saying they're not WORTH it. I'm just - uh - very sure the success rate isn't 100 percent. And less sure about what bats have to do with anything.

It never will be.

[Just leading him back to the subway cars. There's an empty one at the end of the line, past the four brothers'. One next to it is also being used but isn't nearly as lived in as theirs is, while Leo brings the sheets to the completely barren one. It's got a bed set up at least.]

You just gotta take the ones you meet that work out and keep 'em close.

[ It DOES have a bed set up. And ... it's private? It's nice ... Hunter squeezes the pillows kind of hard for a moment, temporarily overwhelmed. ]

I - that was the idea. Yeah. Before ... this happened.

[Leonardo stands there watching him in this semi-private car (only semi as the door is open) and watches him. Jeez. This is almost sadder than Casey.

For the moment, he uses that taller shoulder of Hunter's as an elbow rest and leans a bit.]

It'll be all right. We'll see if we can get you sorted out and find your friends tomorrow.

[ Maybe Casey's had the rougher life, but Hunter's still freshly hurt here. He jolts at the elbow rest but doesn't react with violence at least. ]

R. Right. Tomorrow. I - can't do anything if I don't sleep tonight, huh.
