5 - The Shallow Grave

[pyrighteous]

[ This painting puts you somewhere underground in a large, dimly crystalline cavern. The walls seem to be made of a polished green obsidian? Or some kind of similar material. The tunnels look disturbingly organic rather than manmade. Do you want to know what could possibly burrow on that scale...?

The main feature of the cavern is an utterly dry lakebed. Only a thin layer of mud remains in the bottom. Hunter is lying face down here:



He makes some mildly distressed noises as he continues to try to bury himself. Meanwhile, Flapjack keeps tweeting and poking at him. ]

Go away. I'm dead anyway, so I may as well bury myself.

[ He makes a miserable noise and thunks his head down. ]

[kneels to turn him]

[pyrighteous]

[ Flapjack flutters back a bit with a peep.

Seishirou turns him ... and he's totally fine, just being overdramatic. ]

-- Hey! Don't do that!

[vetplay]

What are you doing here like this?

[sits him up too]

[pyrighteous]

[ He sits up! And grumbles. ]

I failed, okay? I've failed Belos so many times he'll just kill me when I get back! so I might as well die.

[vetplay]

Failure isn't worth dying over. What if you tried again?

That's not how it WORKS. Even chances have to be earned, and I'm out.

You know, this isn't my usual means of coping, but it is interesting how many people find comfort just laying on the ground. [Conversationally as he comes over and sits down besides Hunter.]

[ He blows a raspberry. ]

I'm not worth worrying about.

I'm the one who gets to decide that. If I want to worry about you, its because I saw something in you to be worth caring about.

I'm sure Flapjack feels the same.

[ Flapjack peeps! he flutters to Leo's shoulder. ]

Well you shouldn't still! Who even are you.

[He reaches up, lightly patting the bird's shoulder.]

[ he flops back into the mud. ]

Of course! That's what the Boiling Isles ARE. The remnants of the titan.
