I was very young so I do not fully believe I truly understood right away what was happening to me. But they never disguised themselves as owlbears, never tried to act lovingly or parental.

I knew very quickly where my place was.

You do not need to hold it in. I promise. I will stay right here on the line with you until you feel better again, no matter how long it takes.

[ You know what? He's just gonna go ahead and cry for a hot second. Casey's done SO much to help him, but Rue happened to message him late enough that he's just lying here contemplating his feelings on his own in his room, which is no fun at the moment. Even now, he's doing all he can to muffle the sounds coming out of him. ]

I - I'm still working through it. The only thing I'm sure of is that Belos is horrible. He killed all of my siblings.

I do not think there are enough words to tell you how sorry I am, Hunter. He was a monster for murdering them. For treating you the terrible way he did. For lying to you like that.

I can only be grateful that you shall never have to return to that man again. Your are ours now and we shall always keep you safe.

[ The sniffling dies down for a moment as Hunter goes quiet. He's both hopeful and afraid of Rue's response to what he's about to say. ]

I know exactly who you are, Hunter, and it has nothing to do with your physical body or your past that you had no control of. You are honest and energetic and willing to trust new friends even after all that has happened to you. You have a wonderful heart. You are fiercely loyal. Those are the things I think of when I think of you, not your origins or the awfulness you were subject to.

[ Which is to say, he sounds desperately relieved by that response. Rue DOESN'T know what he is and is still ready to accept him without question. That means a lot. That means everything, actually. ]
