[ The Guard reaches out to Yor? Moves to take her hand and guide it to the other Hunter's shoulder. ]

It's okay. Phoenix is here, and - Yor is one of my favorite people. She would never hurt you.

[ New Hunter sniffles and looks up at her. ]

[ this is the most awkward not!adoption process ever as Yor shakily makes her way to standing, attempting a smile! it's like an anxious squiggle line curved up at the end. ]

I promised. I said I would do anything I could to keep you safe. And I know...

[ she winces because her hands are the dark evidence what kind of promise "anything" can be ]

I know I'm not able to do as much as the others. I can't heal like Mr. Desfourneaux or Mr. Naoya, or do magic like Miss Horse, or figure things out like Stoat, but I do care about you just as much as they do! I don't need you to be useful or strong or even to forgive me, I just want you to be happy!

[pyrighteous]

[ Yeahhh . He loooks. A bit nervous about that but. New Hunter rubs at the mud on his face. ]

How should I be happy?

I...I really don't know myself. B-but I'm happier with others. I spent a really long time with only my brother in my life, so when I became part of a new family it made me happy in ways I didn't even know I could be. And being part of Phoenix feels the same for me here...

[pyrighteous]

... Does that just happen? You just ... get close to people?

[briarliar]

W-well, it took me a long time...

[ like, a decade and a half lol ]

...but it does. Sometimes without you even really noticing it.

[pyrighteous]

I like the sound of that.

You make it seem very natural, you know.

I-I know I can only speak from limited experience, but from all the people who are here risking their lives to make sure you come back...I think you're amazing at it.

H. How many people are in here?

[ shrugs, please don't ask her to do math ]

I'm not really sure. I know Miss Horse, Mr. Naoya, and I think Stoat are here from Phoenix. I know Mr. Inui would be here if...he could...

[ her throat closes up, but that's next on her list. ]

Mr. Desfourneaux, of course. And I know that Yatagarasu has been keeping Mr. Flapjack safe, so maybe more of them because they're aware of the danger...

That's ... that's so many people. They're all risking themselves for me? Doing things like - fighting my uncle?

And talking to you, or memories of you...

[ she isn't sure what the percentage of "people willing to stab Belos in the face until he's dead" is but at least she knows she's not a statistical outlier ]

We're all trying to convince you to come back.

[pyrighteous]

[ Hunter bows his head. ]

Then - I have to come back. Don't I.

We all want you to.

...but we won't force you to do it. It's your choice. We want you to choose us.

[ she is sincere about this. maybe, a little of it is still her trepidation that he's afraid of coming with her because he's afraid of her. ]

[pyrighteous]

[ He looks up at her? Really, really looks at her.

Then ... slowly reaches a hand up towards her. ]

[briarliar]

[ she offers hers to him, palm up and fingers outstretched, almost shy. what seemed like a quirk of awkwardness or modesty seems to have another meaning to it when this is a hand that just recently pummeled someone into nonexistence. her awkwardness reveals that she has been trying every moment she is around him to show him as much gentleness as she can. ]

[pyrighteous]

[ He looks at her hand, then slowly takes it. Levering himself back up onto his feet. ]

[briarliar]

[ she remains very sturdy but also very still as he stands. and her smile is tired but a little more at ease as herself. ]

[ Another sniffle. ]

[ The Guard speaks up again. ]

[ nods her understanding, asking the Guard ]

And you're whole again? H-hopefully not too warped?

[ His face seems far less cracked anyway. ]
