[ Hunter waves and disappears ... leaving Rupert with the box and some enormous gold doors. ]

[heartlands]

[he turns towards the version of hunter he came in with, breathing a sigh of relief.]

Is there anywhere else I can take these to set them free? The ones in the vault, too.

[pyrighteous]

[ The guard startles. ]

What? You can't do that! It - that's not what happened!

[ But he can. there's nothing stopping him! Save those palismen. ]

[heartlands]

It's what's happening now! Or do you want him to actually eat these things?

[opening the box to look at them]

[pyrighteous]

[ They're all adorable animals. They peep plaintively to be freed instead. ]

Of - of course I don't.

[heartlands]

[he gives them a comforting little pat.]

Okay. Then, what's the best place to let them go?

[pyrighteous]

The roof. Nobody ever looks for me up there. And all of them can fly.

[heartlands]

Okay. You want to come with?

[either way, he's looking around for a staircase.]

[pyrighteous]

... Why not. I have to bring you back to the trees anyway.

[ There's one just up the hallway! ]

[heartlands]

Thanks. Come on, let's hurry before he realizes we aren't coming with his medicine.

[up the stairs he goes!]

[pyrighteous]

He's gonna kill me for this.

[ But he follows, and soon enough? They're on the roof.

Get a good look at the Boiling Isles, Rupert. They're in the very heart of the Titan - literally - surrounded on all sides by actual giant rib bones. In the distance some kind of horrific monster casually carries off a screaming person. ]

[heartlands]

I'm not going to let that happen.

[he's taken aback by the sight for a few moments, blinking, before he holds the box up to the air.]

Okay, little guys... You're free to go. And, uh, please don't get carried off like that poor person in the distance.

[pyrighteous]

They'll be fine. Palismans are really good at taking care of themselves.

[ They float out of the box, blinking? Come back to Rupert for a moment to cuddle. ]

[heartlands]

Aww...

[gives them another pet, smiling, before he glances towards hunter.]

I bet they'd let you pet them if you wanted!

[pyrighteous]

Y. You think so?

[ He tentatively reaches out to pet the one that looks like a soot sprite. ]

[heartlands]

Yeah! See?

[...]

We're leaving here after this, so you could probably take one if you wanted.

[pyrighteous]

... Flajack might get jealous. You should take one instead.

[heartlands]

Oh - are you sure?

[pyrighteous]

Yeah. They like you, see?

[heartlands]

Well - okay.

[glancing down into the crowd to see what's here]

[pyrighteous]

[ Really, any cute small animal Rupert can think of is here. A giant soft bumblebee! A cute cat. An axolotl. There's a mouse, and the soot sprite, and all sorts of things. ]

[heartlands]

[he's carefully reaching for the axolotl.]

Hey, little guy...

[pyrighteous]

[ The axolotl lets out a small MEH and gladly clambers into Rupert's hands. ]
