[IC] [Reverie] SEPTEMBER 2022 - PALACE GAME

[ Welcome to the inside of Hunter's heart! Potential CWs include (but are not limited to):

Generally speaking the onscreen stuff will be kept PG-13 (this is a Disney cartoon after all!) but the implications may be exponentially more horrific (this is a Disney cartoon after all!!)

[ Someone draped in a long white cloak and wearing a golden mask steps out of the shadows. He brandishes a small staff at Percy - similar to Belos's, but with a simpler design.

He would be intimidating, maybe, but isn't that annoying voice familiar? ]

Help? Help who?

[It really is. He takes a steadying breath and steps closer.]

I'm here to help Hunter. The person who has been done a great disservice in his own mind, it seems.

[ The guard stiffens at that?? Clearly reacting to the name, but. ]

I - I don't - there's no one by that name here! You can help by leaving!

[Percival may not know magic and spells, but he's smart enough to know when to not leave. He steps a little closer, clearly not intending to just walk away.]

What is your name then?

[ The guard brandishes his staff at Percy. ]

Don't! Don't - come any closer. I'm the Golden Guard. The Emperor's right hand! The youngest he's ever had.

[He'll stop where he is, just in reach.]

Quite the honor, then. But I can't say 'Golden Guard' is a catchy name. That sounds more like a title, if I'm not mistaken. Surely you have a name under that mask?

[ He hesitates visibly. SURELY he has a name? That's a reasonable assumption.

But he bows his head a little, shaking it. ]

No. I - I had one, but. It's not mine any more.

Can I ask what it was?

[Percival can be nice and considerate for only so long. He's aware of where he is and what might be happening (though not concretely, nothing so specific). He needs to figure this out and try to fix things fast so he can get out.]

[ He's silent for a moment, but ... well, something about Percy instills a little trust at least. ]

H. Hunter. I was - Hunter.

[There's recognition in his eyes as he consolidates this knowledge with what he knows about Hunter. Nods once.]

I know of you, Hunter. And I believe you might serve better away from here... Wherever this is.

[ At that, he straightens up a bit - that, at least, he can answer. ]

You're in the Emperor's mind! Or - well. The parts he's carefully preserving so that no one can see them ever again! I-I can tell you all about all of these paintings! If you promise not to go into any of them.

That's very kind.

[A beat.]

I spoke with him already, though. He said this was your mind.

[ Another full body wince. ]

It - I mean, it was - but he's in control now! he should have been in control from the start. That's how it always should have been.

[There it is. He doesn't kneel down as that's just disrespectful of someone he's trying to be on the good side of at the moment. But there is something of Percy's stance that conveys he's wanting to be on level with Hunter.]

Are you really certain? Is that what you want, or is that what he told you you want?

[He would know a thing or two about being manipulated by a voice inside him.]

[ Excuse you, Hunter's pretty tall anyway. He's not that much shorter than you are.

Anyway, he trembles, clinging to his staff. ]

Y. Yes. I'm - I'm certain. Just because he told me to want it doesn't mean he isn't right.

[ He might need more convincing. A little more show and less tell. ]

[Yeah, he's gathering that. He looks around at the different frames.]

Something else then. Which of these is your favorite?

-- Oh! That's easy.

[ He brightens, relieved not to have to answer difficult questions like "do you want to continue existing." He bounds straight over to the starry night painting. ]

I mean, it's a little rebellious. I wasn't supposed to be up there? But it was ... nice. Relaxing.

Hm.

[Good information to have. He looks at the painting, the colors and how they swirl with the lights of the stars. It's lovely.]

And which is your least favorite?

[ The canvas is different from the ones above; it's a bit more see through. You could definitely walk into it...

As for least favorite, well. The Guard hesitates, then points at the mass grave. ]

I. I really don't like thinking about that one.

[Percival eyes it... And nods.]

Then it's time for a field trip. Come with me? I would hate to get lost.

[Guess which one.]

[ PERCY, NO ]

[ wait. ]

[He's already walking to it, getting readyyyyyyy-

(So Hunter knew he shot something without even being there? This is his mind, then.]

[ SURE IS. And this Hunter in particular seems to have that awareness instinctively!

Anyway he hurries after Percy. Which painting? ]

F. Fine! Don't try anything weird!

I'm just curious why you dislike this one.

[It's a mass grave, Percy, how many dead Hunters are in there you think. It's worse than the 2B room.

But he'll stand next to it, leaning in closer.]

I - just - look at it! What part of that looks like something YOU would like to see!?

[ IT'S A MASS GRAVE, PERCY. The canvas gives slightly more resistance, but since the Guard has agreed to follow you, it won't stop you. There's an air current coming through the painting. He just has to step through... ]
