[ HE SURE CAN. for the third time, Belos eats shit on the ground with a satisfying crack of lightning.

The cage sinks a few more centimeters; Hunter's eyes find Adrien's and go rather wide. ]

M-Mister Desfourneaux!?

[trying to pull hunter up from the muck!!!!! again!!!]

It's all right.

[pyrighteous]

[ it KEEPS HAPPENING. This time it's harder - that cage is really stuck good. But at least he can drag it up enough that Hunter isn't actively at risk of drowning. ]

How - how are you in here? What's going on?

[eudaimoniac]

Belos is trying to take over your mind. He's trapped you in all sorts of places. We're just trying to help.

[pyrighteous]

You're helping ...

[ He seems awed by that thought. ]

C-can you get this cage out?

[eudaimoniac]

[i am not strong

he tries his fucking best to get the cage onto solid ground]

[pyrighteous]

[ YOU ARE NOT STRONG, and the mud is thick, and the cage is heavy. There's no budging it on his own.

... But the guard sees this from where he's watching. ]

Should I get the others?

[eudaimoniac]

[pyrighteous]

[ The guard dashes off -

And behind Adrien, Belos launches a scythe-tipped tendril at his back. ]

Would you KINDLY stop electrocuting me.

[eudaimoniac]

[it'll catch him a nice rake across the back before he wheels around]

I will not.

[pyrighteous]

[ Belos is there - standing again, albeit much more of a slime monster than he ever was before. There are three lichtenberg figures crisscrossing him - this seems to be some truer version of him appearing now. ]

Shame. You'll regret that.

[ He clenches his fist, and the petrification in Adrien's hand accelerates. ]

[eudaimoniac]

As long as I get Hunter free, so what?

[MORE LIGHTNING,]

[pyrighteous]

[ It dances through him. But this time, Belos is prepared. He absorbs it and spits it back at him. ]

You'll die. And you'll be trapped in here.

[eudaimoniac]

[luckily his own lightning won't do much to him]

Not forever.

[pyrighteous]

[ Alas then, it does not. But behind him, it hits the cage with a sickening sizzle. Hunter cries out in pain. ]

Are you so sure about that? Forever IS the default outcome.

[eudaimoniac]

If you think you can kill me, come and try.

[pyrighteous]

By all means.

[ He shoves one tendril into the mud of this place. Several more reach out from the mud underneath Adrien, trying to drag him down. ]

[eudaimoniac]

[lighting staff out, cutting away those tendrils as he sends a wall of lightning at belos—not bolts]

[pyrighteous]

[ WALL OF LIGHTNING

Well that hurts a lot. He again disintegrates into ooze - and again starts to reform himself.

It's at this point that the Guard pokes his head through the painting. ]

Mr. Desfourneaux! We're here!

[ And all the clones that Des helped start to pour in. The first one that he healed. the second one that he pulled out of the muck pit. The ... small crowd that may or may not have been a bad decision! But at least in this case, having a full crowd of nine or ten makes pulling this cage out SO much easier. ]

[eudaimoniac]

[MY ARMS OF CLONES

forming a cage of lightning now, trying to keep belos down as the clones deal with the cage]

[pyrighteous]

[ It doesn't take too much time before all the clones get the cage wrenched back out. The corpsey ones confer for a moment, then their apparent leader - the one with long hair - sketches something on the lock, prompting it to explode a little. Hunter is able to stumble out.

Meanwhile, Belos THROWS himself at that lightning cage. Each time he draws off a bit of power ... not that it helps him, given Adrien's immunity to lightning. Instead, he tries to force a sludge tendril through the net and stab Adrien in the gut. ]

[eudaimoniac]

[calling to the hunters,] Run! Don't let him take this place!

[and yeah, he gets stabbed.

[pyrighteous]

-- Adrien!

[ The guard rushes forward as the other Hunters flee. Sliding down the mud and struggling over to him. ]

I'm not leaving you!

[eudaimoniac]

Run, you have to run—

[how about we both try to run. or stumble]

[pyrighteous]

[ Yeah the Guard is dragging Adrien along whether he wants it or not. Belos pursues - a swipe nearly takes the guard's head off -

But the other clones help grab onto them all but shoving them back through the painting. ]
